The next time you get a hangover, take a moment to notice how you desperately wish for perfect health again. You can't feel good without feeling bad first. Without pain, nobody would be able to appreciate feeling good. Nothing can be enjoyable without knowing what it feels like to not enjoy yourself. Everything is nothing without it's opposite.
The next time you decide you hate somebody, take a moment to notice how different the world would be if only love existed. It wouldn't mean the same thing it does in this world. You would be indifferent to it, as it would be all around you all the time. It wouldn't be special anymore, like giving out diamonds for free.
I believe that everything happens for a reason. And I mean everything; pain is in the world to make you appreciate not feeling it. Pleasure is amplified by feeling nothing most of the time. Passion is invoked by feelings that sometimes you don't have.
I know this sounds all so cynical and precise. It must seem like a very boring beginning to a novel, but I'm just setting it up. I'm setting the ground for the moral of the story: Opposites attract, and opposites make up this world as we know it. This beautiful, heart wrenching, terrible and wonderful life. Sometimes we all wish to fall off the edge of the planet, until we almost do.
